Sustainable Renewable and Clean Energy

Reliable green energy for industry

Industry is facing serious challenges: difficult economic conditions, rising energy prices and overseas competition. Estover's plants can help industrial facilities cut costs and decarbonise at the same time, using reliable European technology.

Proven technology

Estover develops, fuels and finances biomass CHP plants. We provide heat and electricity as a client needs it, at a discount to typical fossil fuel prices.

Our plants use proven technology, which has been in operation for decades in hundreds of installations around Europe and Scandanavia. Our steam turbine technology is reliable, straightforward to operate, and has repeatedly proven to make the most effective use of wood fuel. In most cases existing boilers are kept as a backup for when our plant is down for maintenance or in case of unexpected problems.

At a glance

  • We help industry save money and decarbonise at the same time.
  • Our plants use reliable European technology, proven in hundreds of installations over many decades.
  • Our fuel comes from local forestry, typically within an average transport distance of 50 miles. We believe that using woodland to generate energy is a positive, sustainable move, and so do government and many environmental and rural campaigning groups.
  • Wood fuel is clean, has low emissions and is good for the local area - providing rural jobs, and stimulating investment in local woodland and forestry.

How does a biomass plant work?

We are planning to use conventional Combined Heat & Power steam turbine technology. This is widely used across Europe and Scandanavia, and proven to be reliable and clean. We use industrial-scale emissions cleaning equipment - unlike smaller wood fuel boilers where such large and expensive equipment is not practical.

This gives an overall efficiency that is typically between 50-60%. That is significantly higher than electricity-only plants.

As well as this the plant will prevent more carbon emissions, tonne for tonne, than a heat-only boiler due to replacing carbon-intensive electricity on the grid. It is worth noting that the heat produced for industry is high-pressure steam which is all used in the industrial processes, unlike space heating which is often used inefficiently in older buildings with limited insulation.
