Gladsmuir
Gladsmuir Resource Recovery is a Scottish energy-from-waste facility using advanced gasification technology to convert household waste into renewable electricity.
Previously named Levenseat Renewable Energy, Gladsmuir was acquired in July 2025 and is now operated by Cobalt Energy and managed by Estover Energy.
Past projects
Speyside
In conjunction with the Macallan distillery, Estover developed, built and managed the £74m Speyside CHP plant. The plant started operating in 2016 and uses wood waste from the forestry industry in Scotland.
The plant was built by StandardKessel and is operated by BWSC. Originally financed by John Laing, the Green Investment Bank and with an innovative debt structure backed by the UK Treasury, the project is now owned by funds managed by Schroeders Greencoat.
Cramlington
Suppling two large pharmaceutical manufacturers, Estover's £141m 27MWe biomass CHP Plant was completed in 2018 in Cramlington, Northumberland.
Cramlington was built by and is operated by BWSC. Originally financed by John Laing, the Green Investment Bank and Barclays, the project is now owned by funds managed by Foresight.
The plant uses wood waste and recovered wood from Northern England and southern Scotland.
Kent
Operating since 2018, the £160m 27MWe biomass CHP plant in Sandwich, Kent supplies heat and electricity to Discovery Park, one of Europe's leading science and technology parks.
Kent was built by and is operated by BWSC. The project was financed by CIP and is now owned by Greenvolt, part of KKR.
Kent uses a combination of wood waste and recovered wood from across the south of England.
